While attendees at the eBay Developer Conference Tuesday were sitting in on sessions about eBay's online payment service PayPal, they were also asking each other about a payment service rumored to be coming soon from Google. But Google is good at keeping a secret, and talk was purely speculative. A Google employee attending the conference was mum on details. One vendor reported off the record that Google wanted to talk to them in July, but that doesn't give much insight into the timing of an actual product launch.
San Jose Mercury News newspaper reporter Michael Bazeley got a chance to ask eBay CEO Meg Whitman about Google Wallet, and he posted the interview on his Blog (http://www.siliconbeat.com/entries/2005/06/21/whitman_on_google_wallet.html).
Bazeley also reported that Google CEO Eric Schmidt called reporters Tuesday to inform them that Google does not intend to offer a P2P stored-value payment system, but acknowledged the company is working on payment services.
Bazeley's colleague Matt Marshall posted Google Wallet information also worth reading(http://www.siliconbeat.com/entries/2005/06/20/the_google_wallet.html).
