eBay Sign-In Glitch May Allow Access to Member Accounts

eBay rolled back some code it had just released because it was causing issues with its member Sign In procedure. While eBay did not reveal what the issues were, some eBay users complained on discussion boards that when they signed in to their accounts, someone else's name appeared on their eBay sign-in page. Complaints of problems were posted on the boards as early as December 13, 2005, and it appears eBay's first acknowledgement of a problem was December 16.
A letter from one reader to AuctionBytes read, "We are having other people's names on our sign in board, and are often able to access other people's accounts. It happened to me today, really bizarre. Some people are having their listings posted under somebody else's eBay name." The reader recommended users check their own My eBay pages to make sure they don't have items listed or bids that aren't theirs.
