Gumshoo.com is a new Web service aimed at combating eBay fraud. VisibleOffice launched the service in November. After a visitor enters a few search terms, such as "Ipod Nano" or "Louis Vuitton handbag," the service searches eBay for matching auctions and filters out auctions it determines have "questionable" content.

The company says it automatically scans for a variety of risk indicators including seller reputation, location and suspicious item description among others. When the service finds potential risks, it informs the buyer through four categories of alerts and advises them on how to proceed.

Gumshoo.com is currently in beta and is available at no charge.
