Online auction website WhaBam appears to be making strides after launching in September 2005. The site currently has close to 20,000 items, has recently inked a deal with Intero Real Estate Services, and search aggregator Oodle has begun picking up its listings.
WhaBam founder Eren Niazi said the site has thousands of users. It features no listing fees - sellers choose between a commission fee of 1 percent or a flat-rate monthly fee. WhaBam's agreement with Intero means more listings. Intero properties on WhaBam will offer typical MLS listing features such as full color photos, written description, pricing and complete specifications for the home. Potential buyers can respond to the listing directly from WhaBam, after which they will be serviced by Intero's Internet lead management team.
Oodle, an aggregator of classified ads that allows users to search the ads by locale, is now picking up WhaBam listings, giving them additional exposure.
Niazi has been successful in getting attention of reporters, and was featured by the Associated Press and the San Jose Mercury News this month. Niazi also founded and operates OSS, a company that provides high-end server and storage solutions for online content providers.
