Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Fraud Cited in Florida Campaign Bid for Attorney General

A Republican senator running for Attorney General in Florida has cited a recent eBay fraud case as an example of the Internet crime problem that the state must address. An Uzbekistan couple who were living in Florida and trading under the eBay User ID Alisher71 were accused of defrauding buyers on eBay late last year.

The Tallahassee Democrat newspaper quotes Burt Saunders, who threw his hat in the ring for Attorney General this week, "If your business model depends even in part on criminal activity, then you must make adjustments to remain within the law if you and your company are abiding and abetting criminals."

eBay says they do everything they can to stop fraud and spells out its role on its help pages (http://pages.ebay.com/help/confidence/isgw-fraud-ebays-role.html).
