Andale has enhanced its counters as it prepares to stop paying eBay for providing the counters on the eBay site. Andale has been paying eBay a fee to provide it with free Andale counters since 2000, but Andale decided not to renew the contract, which expires in June. Andale President Linda Hayes had told AuctionBytes it was an ROI (Return on Investment) decision not to renew the contract(http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m04/i14/s01).
The new Andale counter enhancement, called Auto Attach, allows any eBay seller to automatically set up Andale counters to appear on all of their current and future listings. The technology that allows counters to appear automatically and prevent duplicate counters from displaying is similar to the technology that allows customers to automatically display Andale Gallery in their eBay listings.
Andale spokesperson Crystal Wells-Miller said sellers can choose a default style and have the option of overriding counters in bulk or for individual listings. She said to change settings, sellers must sign into the Manage Counter page. Any seller can use the Andale counters at no charge, and sellers who use Andale Lister or Lister Pro can change the counter styles during the listing process.
eBay has already begun replacing Andale counters with its own counters on its international sites.
