Google's Benjamin Ling spoke about the company's new Checkout service in an interview with AuctionBytes.TV. Ling, who is Product Lead for Google Checkout, explained how the service facilitates online payments.

Benjamin Ling, Product Lead for Google Checkout

Google Checkout allows shoppers to use one account to make purchases on participating merchant websites simply by logging in, without the need to enter a credit card each time a purchase is made.

Ling said Google Checkout has attracted sellers of all sizes. He fielded questions about recent reports of delays in some transactions; whether merchant listings that accept Google Checkout would be given favored treatment in Google Search results or in AdWords; and how Google Checkout handles merchant's email marketing efforts with customers.

Ling would neither confirm nor deny whether Google was set to launch an online auction or fixed-price marketplace. And while he said Google was open to allowing buyers to fund transactions with their PayPal accounts, he would not confirm reports that eBay turned down Google's offer to allow PayPal as a funding method on Checkout.

The video interview is available now on AuctionBytes.TV.
