Rare Civil War Undertaking Token Coin dated 1863.





Civil War token for J.J. Diehl Undertaker 133 Essex Street NY New York. Minted when hard coin currency became scarce.
Merchants advertising services and were accepted as payment.
During the height of conflict between the states, pity the poor soldier who when given this coin in change flipped it to test his luck.
Clever mortician ad. Reverse has a coffin with sight glass in wreath.
Pattern after a US large Cent with engraver name L. Roloff under full spelling LIBERTY visible on headress of indian head. FULD----630-T-1A-R-2
