Ladies and gentlemen I have stated that ebay has priced themselves out of the market multiple times over the last few weeks on these boards. I have watched ebay's auction numbers nose dive in the catagory I list in and browse regularly (sterling silver). In the first quarter of 2005 we have watched as again and again ebay has given us half off fixed price days and even a 5 cent listing day for auctions. I am CERTAIN this is because ebay sellers have finally had enough of the high fees and are limiting their listings on ebay the auction site.

We have yet ANOTHER half off fixed price selling day starting in a few hours on ebay. I think that this the 5th sale this quarter and these kinds of sales which have been rare in the past are now becoming very common. If you decide to take advantage of this sale my advice is to list big ticket items on 10 day listings at full selling price and hope you sell 1 item of every 10 you list. Lower priced items if you list them ie. items under $30.00 use only 7 day listings and only use the gallery on really unique items. I think ebay IS feeling the pressure. It feels good to have ebay management sweating the numbers for a change. Sincerely, John Leckrone John@hopkinsvilleantiques.com

It seems that they are adjusting their business model and experimenting with different options. Companies do it all the time.....

Here's a trick that I use on discounted listing days that has helped immensely in the past.

I list 100-125 items daily, most of them the same. I do this because most of my items (almost al BINs) sell within the last few hours of listing, due to the way search is setup.

On discount days, 50% especially, I list everything twice (as it doesn't hurt my bottom line any). In TurboLister, however, I have everything setup duplicate. One set are all 7 day listings, and the other set is 5 day listings. I list both sets on 50% days, since most people will post 7 or longer. My 5 day listings aren't buried in the avalanche of listings ending 7 days from now.

Give it a try sometimes. It might surprise you.

As for the discounts, it actually encourages me and other sellers to spend more and sell more, meaning more FVFs for eBay. Looking at the auction numbers from Medved, I don't see any dip. Even counting extra listings on discount days don't make up for it. Look at 2004 vs. 2005. Some categories may be going the way of the dodo, yes, because there isn't enough profit. Others are becoming more crowded.

And the buyers are still there.
